Kitchen Curtains

Kitchen curtains are the bright spot that helps make the room warm and inviting. They can change the look and atmosphere of the room. Even though they are not very expensive, as a rule, they can bring a considerable impact to the style of your kitchen. Since it is less expensive, window treatment in the kitchen is one of the first things many homeowners address when remodeling or prepping their house for sale.

There are various issues to keep in mind when you buy a set of curtains for your kitchen. First, you will want to assess the current lifestyle of the kitchen. If it's a busy room, like many are, your curtains will need to be able to hold up to a high traffic area. They should also be flexible, meaning that you can pull them easily to the side, to let more light in. This is an important aspect of curtains, since the sun is stronger only for a short time during the day, on whatever side the kitchen faces. If you have more than one pair of windows in your kitchen, you'll also be able to consider curtains that may let in less light, only because you can let more in using all the various windows. You'll always want privacy to play a part in your curtain selection, too. If you live on a busy city street, and your kitchen faces that direction, select kitchen curtains that will let in less light and promote more privacy.

Like any other draperies, there are various types of curtains from which you can select window treatments for your kitchen. The most common type of curtain is probably the panel curtain. This type slides back and forth on your curtain rod using a pocket at the top, that the rod goes through. They can cover the whole window, or be pulled to the sides to let in much more light. You can tie them off to the sides, or complement them with valances.

If you need more light in your kitchen, you might want to select cafe curtains. They only cover the lower half of the window, which still allows light to come in unimpeded through the top panes. Most curtains of this type are more stationary, and cannot always be pulled back, since they are short.

There are accessories that will further enhance your kitchen's aesthetic appeal. They include tassels, tiebacks, finials and rods. The print and colors of the fabric you'll be using, along with the various accessories, should all come together to complement your kitchen's style, or the style you are trying to achieve. If your kitchen is wall-papered, you might want more subtle curtains, so that the patterns don't conflict with each other, creating a room that appears too “busy”. If your walls are very plain, then you can be more aggressive in your choice of patterns for your kitchen curtains, as long as they don't interfere with the mood you are trying to establish for the room.
